오클랜드 지역 여성 교정시설의 여성 그룹이 마타리키를 준비하기 위해 바느질, 퀼트 및 공예 그룹에 참여하고 있습니다.그들은 마타리키를 테마로 한 쿠션 커버와 퀼트 스퀘어를 만들느라 바빴습니다.각 사각형은 마타리키 성단에 있는 아홉 개의 별 중 하나를 나타냅니다.

감옥에 오기 전까지 바느질을 한 번도 해본 적이 없는 메이는 이제 자신이 직접 디자인한 강아지 간식 가방 80개를 만들어 달라는 요청을 받았습니다.그녀는 크리에이티브 업계에서 경력을 쌓을 것을 고려하고 있으며 앞으로 자원봉사를 계획하고 있습니다.

이 그룹을 운영하는 로빈 비커스 (Robyn Bickers) 는 참가자들의 자신감이 크게 높아졌다고 말했다.이 그룹은 여성들에게 창의적인 기회를 제공하며, 다른 수감자들의 참여에 대한 요구도 높습니다.그들은 앞으로 매주 모임을 갖기를 희망합니다.

메이와 제스는 바느질이 차분한 느낌을 주고 집중력을 높여준다는 걸 알게 됐어요.또한 이 그룹은 여성들이 서로 소통하고 창작할 수 있는 안전한 공간도 제공합니다.6개월간의 작업 끝에 목요일 아침 교도소 안에서 마타리키 벽걸이가 공개되었습니다.
