Watercare, a council-controlled organization, has assured West Auckland residents that the discoloured tap water in their area is not a health risk. Residents of Ranui, Kelston, Glen Eden, and Henderson reported the issue on Friday evening. Watercare is currently flushing the network and working promptly to restore the water supply back to its normal state.
They thanked the residents for their patience and assured them that despite the water looking different, it is still safe to drink. According to Watercare, the discoloration is most likely due to minerals like iron and manganese that naturally accumulate in pipes. Changes in the water flow can stir up these minerals, causing a yellowish tinge. Ongoing work in nearby areas can also stir up sediment in the pipes.
