      The port city of New Plymouth is the area's cultural and commercial hub. Taranaki's economy is diverse and includes dairy, oil and gas. The region is the highest contributor or national GDP per capita. 

      Wellington

Southland's location is such that views of Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights are common.

사법부

특이한 점은, 뉴질랜드 군주인 엘리자베스 2세 여왕은 비록 뉴질랜드의 법 제도와는 직접적 관련이 없지만, 법률로 제정되기 전, 여왕은 모든 법안을 재가해 주어야 합니다. 뉴질랜드의 경우 총독이 여왕을 대신해 왕실의 재가(royal accent)를 내주는데, 호된 토론과 투표 결과, 이는 형식적인 절차에 불과합니다.
