Suku-suku lokal Taranaki Selatan (iwi) dan dewan telah membuat perjanjian kemitraan baru. Strategi Kemitraan He Pou Tikanga menjelaskan bagaimana Dewan Distrik Taranaki Selatan berencana untuk meningkatkan kolaborasi dengan empat iwi di daerah tersebut. Kesepakatan itu dibuat oleh dewan dan kelompok tata kelola iwi. Ini termasuk staf dari kedua belah pihak yang bekerja sama, dengan dewan mendanai kemitraan.

Perjanjian tersebut menyatakan bahwa iwi harus terlibat dalam pengembangan kebijakan dewan, pemberian layanan, proyek khusus, dan pengambilan keputusan. Lebih banyak sumber daya dari dewan dan sumber-sumber lain diperlukan agar iwi dapat berpartisipasi. Walikota Phil Nixon mengatakan sangat penting bagi staf dari kedua belah pihak untuk bekerja sama.
