Selandia Baru telah mendukung upaya perdamaian di Sudan Selatan melalui misi ini sejak 2011. Sebelum Sudan Selatan merdeka, Selandia Baru juga menyumbangkan personel untuk Misi PBB di Sudan dari 2005 hingga 2011.
