오클랜드에서는 파시피카 장로들이 매일 댄스 수업을 통해 활동적이고 친목을 도모하고 있습니다.매주 평일 정오가 되면 약 100명의 사람들이 망게레 시내에 모여 한 시간 동안 무료로 진행되는 줌바 수업을 듣습니다.2013년에 시작된 이 이니셔티브는 노인들의 신체 활동을 장려하고 당뇨병 예방에 도움을 주는 것을 목표로 합니다.

이 수업은 건강과 체력을 증진할 뿐만 아니라 외로움 퇴치에도 도움이 됩니다.한 참가자는 이렇게 말했습니다. “행복하고 친구들도 볼 수 있어서 여기 왔어요.

이 수업에서 연주되는 음악은 태평양의 영향을 받았으며 연습에는 섬 스타일의 움직임이 포함되어 있습니다.가장 나이가 많은 참가자는 89세입니다.7년째 꾸준히 수강하고 있는 라시니 카후 (Lasini Kahou) 는 수업을 통해 몸이 건강하고 건강한 기분을 유지할 수 있다고 말했다.

수업이 열리는 망게레-오타후는 오클랜드에서 태평양 인구가 가장 많은 곳입니다.수업은 지역 위원회에서 자금을 지원하고 칼로레인 토무 (Kalolaine Tomu) 가 조정합니다.그녀의 남편은 강사이고 아들은 DJ입니다.
