Air New Zealand passengers have two more years to redeem Covid credits, with $200 million worth yet to be used up.
Covid credits were issued to customers who purchased non-refundable fares for flights that could not be flown due to the pandemic.
Air New Zealand has prolonged the expiry date for credit vouchers, given due to travel disruptions from COVID-19, to 31 January 2026. Previously, these vouchers were due to expire on 31 January 2024.
The decision to extend the credits came after feedback from customers. Currently, over $200 million worth of these credits remain unused.
The extension is only valid for credits issued before October 2022. These vouchers can be used not only for flights but also for upgrades, extra luggage, and seat selection, among other services.
Richard Thomson, Air NZ’s chief financial officer, mentioned that 85% of these vouchers have been used. Although refunds have been provided to passengers with refundable tickets, the airline hasn’t managed to contact every affected customer.
