      The port city of New Plymouth is the area's cultural and commercial hub. Taranaki's economy is diverse and includes dairy, oil and gas. The region is the highest contributor or national GDP per capita.

      The region's only city Invercargill offers a relaxed pace of life with wide streets, little traffic, spacious parks and gardens, striking Victorian and Edwardian architecture and impressive sporting facilities including New Zealand’s first indoor velodrome. Southland's location is such that views of Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights are common.

뉴질랜드에서 가장 유명하고 아름다운 페리 노선은 북섬의 웰링턴과 남섬의 픽톤 사이입니다. 일반적으로 ‘쿡 해협 횡단’이라고 부르는데 항해 시간은 약 3.5시간입니다(날씨에 따라 다름).

블루브리지(Bluebridge)와 인터아일랜더(Interislander) 페리는 두 섬 사이를 정기적으로 운행하며 차량, 오토바이, 반려동물을 선적할 수 있습니다. 편안한 좌석, Wi-Fi가 제공되는 라운지, 식사도 마련되어 있으며, 전용 캐빈을 이용할 수 있습니다.
아침부터 저녁까지 운영하고 여름에는 운행 횟수가 늘어납니다.
웰링턴에서 픽톤까지 항해할 때 블루브릿지 야간페리를 가족단위로 이용하시면 경제적이고 편안합니다. 페리 안에는 객실도 있습니다.

 

웰링턴 페리 터미널
웰링턴 중심가에 위치한 블루브리지 웰링턴 터미널은 웰링턴 기차역 맞은편에 있으며 워털루 키(Waterloo Quay)근처라 도시에서 걸어서 갈 수 있습니다..
인터아일랜더 웰링턴 여객터미널은 아오테아 키 피피테아(Aotea Quay, Pipitea)에 위치해 있으며, 인터아일랜더 웰링턴 차량터미널은 웰링턴 도심에서 차/버스로 이동하면 그리 멀지 않습니다. 시내까지 도보로 이동하려면 고속도로를 건너야 하는데 횡단보도가 없으므로, 웰링턴 철도역 9번 승강장에서 인터아일랜더 무료 셔틀버스를 타시면 됩니다.

 

픽톤 페리 터미널
블루브릿지 픽톤 터미널은 픽톤 해안가에서 1km 미만의 거리에 있습니다. 무료 셔틀을 이용할 수 있으며 Picton i-SITE, 인터아일랜더 버스 쉼터 및 Oxley Tavern에서 픽업 및 하차할 수 있습니다. 승객을 위한 인터아일랜더 픽톤 터미널은 픽톤 오클랜드 거리 1번지 해안가에 있습니다. 같은 구역에서 조금만 걸으면 터미널이 나옵니다.

 

쿡 해협 항해
세상에서 가장 아름다운 항해 여행 중 하나라고 불리는 이것은 단순한 페리 여행 그 이상입니다.
자연 애호가들은 토종 돌고래, 고래, 알바트로스, 오카(orca, 킬러 고래), 뉴질랜드 물개 등의 다양한 바다동물을 볼 수 있어 이 여행을 좋아합니다. 최대 300마리의 혹등고래떼가 6월과 9월 사이 쿡 해협을 가로질러 이동합니다.
웰링턴 항구를 떠나면 고층 빌딩을 뒤로하고 웰링턴의 험준한 해안선을 지나 쿡 해협 깊숙히 순항을 시작하는데 맑은 날에는 멀리 남섬의 풍경이 보이기도 합니다.
여정이 끝나면 토리 해협(Tory Channel)과 퀸 샬롯 사운드(Queen Charlotte Sounds)를 통해 천천히 항해할 수 있습니다. 이것은 무성한 토종 숲, 맑은 물, 덤불 산책로, 휴가용 주택으로 둘러싸인 사진작가의 꿈입니다.

수상 택시는 등산로 시작이나 페리를 타고 갈 수 없는 목적지까지 이동하기 위한 서비스입니다.
대부분의 수상택시들은 지역 관광 맞춤형 운행도 합니다. Hauraki Express와 Auckland Water Tax는 개인 관광을 제공하며 오클랜드와 그레이트 배리어섬(Great Barrier Island), 카와우섬(Kawau Island), 라키노섬(Rakino Island) 간의 환승도 가능합니다.
